ABOUT S.A.N.
Still in its infancy, SAN can already boast more accomplishments than many more seasoned organizations. The board members of SAN have already established and implemented a clean-up and maintenance schedule for three skateboard parks in the Greater Philadelphia area.
SAN has spearheaded a campaign to re-open LOVE Park for skateboarding. To this end, members of SAN have worked very closely with members of Philadelphia City Council, the Philadelphia Mayor's Office and representatives from Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Commission.
SAN has created a postcard awareness and protest campaign encouraging Philadelphia's Mayor Street to give LOVE Park back to the skateboarding youth of Philadelphia. Thousands of postcards have been signed from all over the world and collected by SAN members.
SAN, in conjunction with members of Young Involved Philadelphia, organized and held a rally to Free LOVE Park at Philadelphia's City Hall on October 5, 2003 that was attended by close to five hundred supporters. SAN has begun fundraising activities including soliciting for donations and the sale of a LOVE Park/Skateboard Advocacy Network T-Shirt with proceeds going towards the re-opening of Love Park and its future maintenance.
SAN has already been featured in several print publications including local Philadelphia newspapers, skateboarding media outlets on the Internet and international skateboarding publications. A documentary-style film capturing the history of skateboarding at LOVE Park has been created by the skateboard video company, ON Video. The film features SAN accomplishments and documents the rally. SAN hosted the World Premiere of this film in conjunction with the University of the Arts. Several hundred people were in attendance.
The LOVE park situation is currently under review with many supporters in both City Council and the Mayor's office, due to the persistence and diligence of SAN members.
