What is the mission of the Skateboard Advocacy Network?
SAN seeks to advocate for skateboarders through organized representation and community action. SAN seeks to improve public perception of skateboarders through education, information distribution and community outreach. SAN is especially dedicated to providing positive life experiences for youth of differing communities through skateboarding.

  ABOUT S.A.N.

Established in June of 2003, the Skateboard Advocacy Network was created to provide a unified voice for skateboarders. Franklin's Paine had already established itself as a non-profit fundraiser for the building of public skateboarding facilities in the Philadelphia area. Skateboarders that care a great deal for the future of skateboarding and are active members of their communities and the youth that partake in this activity established SAN to compliment the efforts of Franklin's Paine.

SAN began with concerns for proper skate facility planning and construction and the imminent task of trying to make LOVE Park a legal area for skateboarding in Philadelphia as their first objectives.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Free LOVE Park
LOVE Park, long time skateboarding landmark and symbol for the skateboarding youth of Philadelphia was rendered un-skateable and illegal over a year ago. This event was a tragic loss for the city of Philadelphia and its youth.

Gear for Groms
Gear For Groms is a skateboarding outreach program envisioned and spearheaded by members of SAN. The program seeks to give back to urban communities through the bounty of skateboarding.

Skatepark Maintenance
SAN is committed to keeping as many skate spots available as possible. We are dedicated to the maintenance and protection of free, public skate parks.

NEWS

SAN donates funds for FDR construction
Back in the begining of october, SAN donated money to help build a now completed bowl.
"The Friends of FDR and Franklins Paine Skatepark Fund sincerely thank you for your recent $500.00 donation towards our efforts to enlarge FDR skatepark. Your donation will be specifically going towards the rental of a back-hoe rig to move and shape the new 12’ 6’ bowl, as well as rebar to support said structure.

Without groups like SAN, the Philadelphia skateboard scene would be lacking not only a community voice, but also a means to provide for free, public skate spots in The City of Philadelphia. In addition, we also understand the work SAN does towards spreading the popularity of our common hobby and interests, and for which we are grateful...

Thank you, keep up the good work!

Best Regards,

Just in time for the Holidays
An article entitled Toy packaging can leave parents frustrated has an interesting factoid: "More Americans are injured by packaging than are hurt in skateboard accidents."

Rhoad Island Skaters Protest
A Rhoad Island school board voted against building a skatepark at the middle school. The local skateboarders had nowhere to go so they skated in front of the School Board Chairman's house in protest.
